I suppose I haven't done these yet and I am quite far behind so...it's movie time!

Pretty Cure: the Movie Reviews!

1. Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart: The Movie

That Nagisa, caring more about chocolate sales than saving the world...then again I think she did that bit even before Saitama.

The realm of "worlds" within the original Futari universe can get really weird, especially when talking about elements of space, time and dimension that really can just get really screwy if you think about it too hard. (other Cure seasons end up having something similar but at least they're not as screwy)  In this movie, we get another of the worlds outside the known Gardens of Light and Rainbows, this being the Garden of Hope, which is shaped like a diamond and protected by seven frogs who basically wear the representation of the Prism Stones of this universe.  They end up bringing in Nagisa and Honoka (and...sigh...Hikari...yeah, this is the first Cure movie but it's a Max Heart one...at least every season gets one and Max Heart gets two to make up for the original Futari not getting one...but still...Hikari...) due to needing some extra protection of their queen, the "Queen of Hope" during a special ceremony she has to partake in, using three special diamond accessories around a special "fountain of hope" that she must do once per year to guarantee hope of her world; but if it isn't done, will spread darkness not just there but throughout the entire universe.  In a way it's sort of the general idea of the Futari era, but with some foreshadowing of future seasons: the "magic protected fountain" is of course foreshadowing the fountains for Splash Star, immediately after the Futari seasons are done...and the "once a year ceremony that must be done or else" is a much simpler version of the "Song of Happiness/Sorrow" storyline from Suite several years after this.  Of course someone is trying to prevent this from happening, which in this case is the Dark Witch, who is basically another servant of the Dark King who wants to see him revived using the massive darkness that will spill out if the Fountain of Hope goes dry. (then again at least it's rather simple compared to the messiness of what happened to the Dark King this season...then again this is long before that messiness started and at this point for the most part, we really had no idea about Hikaru/the boy and Baldez was barely known if at all)

The movie is rather simple but it has a lot of weird things going on that end up making it rather cheesy and strange.  We got a prince in the Garden of Hope whose basically a clone of Fuji-P who wants to stand up with the Cures but can't...leading to a weird plot point towards the end.  We also have two of the seven frogs getting some noteriety while trying to help the Cures along the way.  One, Square (the "blue frog") is a rebellious one who doubts if/whether the Cures and Shiny Luminous are enough to deal with this, but of course comes around in the end and even makes a crucial sacrifice near the final part.  Likewise we have the pink frog, Maquis, who is presumed dead but ends up in a convoluted way hidden around the Dark Witch and ends up saving Nagisa and Honoka's butt near the end.  The Dark Witch is a generic villain but she is a tough one, though it's weird her Zakenna end up looking like actual creatures like sharks and bats and with none of the shadowy elements until they explode.  We do get some great badass moments of action from the main Cures...but of course Shiny Luminous is as useless as ever when it doesn't involve Extreme Luminario, so don't look for her being a hero amidst this whole thing.  Oh and we get a special movie finisher where they all turn gold...because they need something to show to kids that this is awesome.

All in all, standard Cure fare for a movie length story but at least it's passable...and at least it's funny to see Hikari try and fail like she tends to.

One last quick note: no future Cures in this movie but we do get future fairies: the main one being the afforementioned Maquis, who later becomes Princess Fillia in Splash Star (so why isn't SHE protecting the fountain!?)...and later still, Chypre in HeartCatch.  Likewise we have Trilliant, who at this point was the annoying Heartiel Patron...but later becomes the even more annoying spazz Potpourri (also in Heartcatch); and then there's Opal...who as of this moment is an official fairy VA now due to being Hariham Harry in Hugutto.
