Career of Evil '17: SUBORDINATION!
A Look at 31 Super Sentai villain subordinates

October 12: Galactic Merchant Dongoros (Fiveman)

With a franchise that is as long lasting as Sentai, you’d expect greed of monetary value to be a factor that villain groups would touch on more often; yet while we see groups like CRIME and the Londerz Family partake in them, it’s much less seen in grander villain squads as an aspect of evil.  This sort of makes Dongoros the exception than the typical, in that his entire focus within Zone is his greed and his desire to both covet the money he makes and what he can use it on.  It’s weird that a group of villainous conquerors such as Zone would even have a need for money, but it’s sort of made apparent from early on that the universe of Fiveman is not quite as cheap as you’d want: with the means of growth, the Gorlin, costing quite a bit of Dolyuns, it probably worked to their advantage to have someone who could keep track of their finances within them as opposed to merely just steal money and hope it isn’t all just wasted on booze.

While obviously Dongoros is probably the last choice some would take regarding having a villain watch their money, his possessive nature towards making a buck at least allows for any funds Zone comes across to be protected.  Of course with that money, Dongoros is able to typically use it to get items for the group, but likewise use it to use bribery to bring subjects to assist the group with their schemes without really any care of whether or not it is going to be successful.  To him, as long as it’s affordable, it’s probably within reach.  Of course any of the money he doesn’t spend on Zone, he prefers to keep for himself, considering that he just rather covet it and have it as a means to care for instead of spending it; but then again he’s a bit of a greedy bastard in that way.  He does tend to have some schemes where money isn’t an object and he acts like a typical Zone general, but usually when he’s involved, somehow someone probably got bribed or bought out.

Effectiveness: Dongoros’ methods vary considering the abilities of money can only go so far.  Since most of his actions tend to involve bribery and he’s rather foolish typically, he isn’t really as effective as some of the more forceful members of Zone; but sometimes he does have ingenious ideas like hiring a giant to fight Fiveman…even if said giant was a grade school kid with homework problems.

Downfall: Because Dongoros is more interested in his Dolyuns than anything to do with Galactic Empress Meadow, he was probably affected the least by the reveal that she was the monstrous Vulgyre all along.  However he did go down with the ship mostly due to his obsession in trying to get every last cent off as it went down…leading to him getting killed when Vulgyre was finally destroyed and not wanting to leave it behind.

Final Thoughts: Dongoros is a greedy bastard and that really is all you need to know outside being the “comedic” villain of Zone more or less.  I actually don’t mind the incentive of a villain being greed on occasion and they did need someone a bit more “comedic” on the villain side, but with how weird Fiveman got, I’m not sure if he was what they needed.

Next Time: Hey, did you know that Goldar didn’t originally talk!?  Shocking considering Goldar, but his original…well, he didn’t for a while.
Career of Evil day 12: He's only in it for the money...and it isn't like he's going to give you any anytime soon!
