Post-Script: Rescue From the Eastern Isles

Sat Jul 4, 2009, 7:05 PM
Well it's really hard to say that my vacation is over...but in a way, it is. I finally got off the ferries (yeah, had to take two) that took me from Nantucket all the way back to Quonet Point, RI...though in a really neat way, we got to see a lot of fireworks from the various RI displays along the bay from Newport and the other towns as we approached port. Then back on land, I finally settled down at a hotel in Seekonk, MA (a Providence suburb, with my hotel right on...yeah, a certain someone is going to get me for this, Mink Street) and tomorrow I'll be on my way back to Philly...well, by way of some business at the Kinokuniya at the Palisades Center. A couple things did happen between my last entry and this one, of which I'll just list off now:

-In a weird way, I sort of wandered a bit this morning from early on considering there wasn't too much else I needed to do in Nantucket before leaving. Actually checked out a local coffee house before breakfast and finally finished Watchmen...though I still want to get the movie when the DVD comes out (and the PA budget is passed so we can get paid) to compare and figure what the movie did better and what it could have had.
-Nearly made a huge booboo that I didn't realize until it was nearly too late: apparently my money takeout on Thursday at another supermarket (Grand Union, not the Stop and Shop I mentioned in the previous entry) had me forget my ATM. Thank goodness I remembered and got it back...before getting a little extra to get me home.
-Lunch was Lola Burger, a branch of a fancy "Lola 41" on the island where they pretty much...sold burgers. They had a lot of other stuff but I stuck with the basic classic...which was merely OK I guess compared to some other good ones I've had before.
-I mostly avoided the 4th events at Nantucket...I hear they have a water fight on Main Street at noon but I sort of was in the mood to get home and not in the mood to take part in the events anymore.
-When I got back to Martha's Vineyard, I ended up having dinner...well, it was a good pizza that was stated to be "the best in Boston"...but I can't really remember the name right now. (may need to pull up my photos to jog the mind) Dessert was finally at the notable "Mad Martha's" where I had the Reese's Cream...but sadly it really didn't have the same texture or didn't seem as good as either of the ice cream places on Nantucket. (Juice Bar or Nantucket Ice Cream/Juice Guys)
-Spent a bit of time watching people playing arcade games as well before my ferry arrived at Martha's Vineyard. One guy literally one over 5,000 tickets on a machine in an arcade, while another got 30-something stages in Galaga...and meanwhile, I just replayed a bit of Star Wars Arcade until I beat the Yavin stage, just to give the nostalgia of "A New Hope" back in me.
-Finally...well, aside from the brilliance of the fireworks, lets say the water on the way back to RI was a tad choppy...and my stomach doesn't really take too well to it. Though one weird and ironic situation: there was a Steely Dan song playing when I set out for Nantucket ("Deacon Blues", which sort of personified the first half of my trip) and another playing when I finally got off tonight (the similarly interesting but more lively "My Old School").

So with vacation essentially over, I guess it's time to do something I did with London: my top and worst five moments of both trips...both chronologically:

Best:
1. My stay at all the Best Westerns throughout MA & RI this week.
2. My little "storyline" in Providence (which I won't say here)
3. Exploring the funness of Newport (yes, even the Cliff Climb)
4. Sailing on the Endeavor through Nantucket Harbor
5. Watching two Star Wars movies on the big screen...even with the Special Editions.

Worst:
1. Howard Johnson...nuff said.
2. My complete and utter breakdown thanks to said "Howard Johnson" and my late-night drive of madness around Cape Cod leading to me nearly giving up my vacation.
3. Getting seasick both going out and leaving from Martha's Vineyard
4. My "bike ride" to 'Sconset. (next time I'll just stick to town and easier routes)
5. Braindead leaving my ATM at a grocery store and not realizing it until I was nearly gone.

Think that's about it for this time...got a story coming that you may like and a few ideas down the pike. Sort of want to get back to some older stuff too but you know me...way too well.

  • Mood: Sunny Mood
  • Drinking: Wawa English Toffee 'chino

Aaand that was one cool vacation man, surely you are brave having these adventures, have a cool resting day before Monday work! :D

One glance at a book and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for 1,000 years. To read is to voyage through time.

Brave, how so? When you see little kids running around on the same cliffs as you or seeing people riding bikes the real way instead of just going on the longest, worst path in a rainstorm, you know that sometimes you're a bit reckless and stupid.

That's one big part of bravery. ;)
