Recently with Halloween, I asked my girls who they would want to be for the holiday but with a bit of a twist: I told them that they could be any female from the Marvel universe they wanted...or just give me an idea and I'd help them find one! Here's what Olivia had to say about that:

Olivia: Um...well...I really don't know. I mean, this sort of thing really...isn't my sort of thing. I really don't consider myself of much, merely just a girl blending in with the crowds. Sometimes I do wonder what Jijy sees in me, since I'm just some regular girl whose rather weak-willed and is good with her studies. Maybe if I can just not seem too conspicuous, that would be fine. And...maybe something that doesn't rub up against my body...

And thus we've reached the fifth, and final, of my commisions of my human-side girls dressed up as various female characters of the Marvel Universe...and the only one in color at that! Olivia is sort of a normal, shy girl who has problems with confidence and sort of has problems even feeling acceptance with Jijy and Sheri, sort of always wanting to merely be "one of the girls" instead of being a center of attention. And it's because of this...that I knew she had to be a Skrull. Yeah...maybe not the most obvious of answers: Skrulls have a bit of infamy at Marvel, particularly with recent messy events. But somehow when I started with the project, the only ones I knew from the start was Oli would be a Skrull and Jijy would be The Cat.

As for what Skrull...well, that was where the problem stemmed. There are quite a few notable females among the Skrulls but it was sort of hard for me to get a good image on who to use and who had the right amount of references. A few came to mind but they all seemed to feel like it wouldn't work for Olivia. First was Princess Annelle, who I remembered from "The Super Hero Squad Show" and lead the shape-shifters until Galactus ate their world...but she really wasn't that notable or prominent believe it or not. Then there was Jazinda, who worked for a short bit with Shulkie and was the daughter of the Super Skrull...but she hadn't been around too long and isn't even in the comics anymore. (thanks once again for removing interesting characters, dumb writers!) Someone else also mentioned Veranke, the Skrull Queen behind the "Secret Invasions" mess...but I didn't even know her name and it just didn't feel right.

However there was another female Skrull I remembered that seemed to mesh perfectly with Oli-chan. That Skrull was Lyja, a female who actually dated and even married Johnny Storm of the Fantastic 4 when she posed as the blind Alicia Masters (who typically is more of a Ben Grimm kind of person) Once she was found out though...the gloves came off! Somehow the factor of Lyja being the more meek Alicia seemed to mesh well with Olivia, even with her rougher other side. While I did sort of want her green, we can sort of just say that she decided to not go with that but I think she looks cute regardless.

But that does leave the question: why would a sweet, shy, insecure girl like Olivia even dress up as a horrible, shape-shifting monster such as a Skrull!? Well...I have an answer, but it's silly. I can't give anyone anything for it outside a no-prize if they get the answer but it is a neat bit of trivia.
