Futari Super Ultra Final Max!!! (pt. 1): The long and winding (and really ridiculous) love story between Nagisa and Fujimura finally comes to it's climax, with Nagisa getting some assistance from a sumo wrestler on the day of the soccer playing high schooler's birthday, then going on a date with him on Christmas Eve...at that amusement park that tends to be destroyed quite a bit by the Dusk Zone forces (including this time too). Oh and she and Honoka get a final farewell present of a party prior to their departure from the clubs they...sort of...maybe...ran the last year or so. (should we tell them the truth or wait until the takoyaki is cold due to the latest Zakenna fight?)
Oh and in plot related elements: weird things are happening to Hikari and the boy in the mansion...but enough on them...

Sumo wrestlers need love too!
Regardless of them not being in the same school anymore and my own constant annoyance, the ridiculous love story between Nagisa and Fujimura continues onwards, probably approaching a climax as we reach the end of the Futari saga. This time around, it is now Fuji-P's birthday coming up, and Nagisa in her constant flustered nature, decides that she needs to get him a present in order to show how much she appreciates him. Ultimately she ends up settling on a towel, embroidered with his initials because...well, to make it all the more mushier...er, I mean, personal. Of course from there is basically just becomes the typical calamities as Nagisa tries to get the towel to him, trying to find where the soccer team is practicing, putting up with a sumo wrestler that keeps popping up, and even fighting another Zakenna (this one sent by Baldez himsef) in hopes of completing said mission. Its just another dumb episode that of course leads to mroe unneeded hope that he'll finally give her the time of day and that the two of them will be a couple in the end...despite my feelings otherwise. At least in more plot-interested elements, things are starting to pick up regarding Hikari and the boy. Despite the two trying to avoid each other, the boy escapes from the mansion again and tries to find her. However this time around they don't succeed and somehow want to hold him back, knowing that at this crucial moment they can't know of each other before the final maturation of either the Queen or the Dark King emerges and the final battle of light and darkness can occur. I'm a bit confused though: sometimes they want Hikari and the boy to meet, and others they don't; which is it? Or is this the whole idea of fearing that if they meet at the wrong time, it could bring about the wrong reaction...that probably is the whole purpose but it doesn't help that no one, particularly Baldez, is answering regarding what they really want.
Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart: Ep. 42: A Skating Rink of Sweethearts? Slipping and Falling into Great Crisis!
Hikari better have paid for her admission before rushing in to save the day!
This whole love story between Nagisa and Fujimura is both never-ending and repetitive, especially considering how it ends here just as it ended last season: with nothing resolved! The situation this time: probably as thanks for actually doing nice for him in the birthday episode last time, Fujimura decides to spend a bit more time with Nagisa by taking her to the amusement park on Christmas Eve (the same one we've seen so many times in this series). It of course is something that Honoka has to go along with because she wants to secure the whole Nagisa/Fujimura relationship once and for all and to make sure that her teammate doesn't screw anything up (despite the fact that Zakenna tend to follow everywhere they go...so there's that too) and more or less has a lot of mixed signals on all ends, more or less associated with just what Fujimura wants, what Nagisa believes and just how messy it all becomes as it goes on. Eventually of course the Guardians and a Zakenna do attack (while they're on a ferris wheel...making me wonder how they'd be able to rush out to fight it considering all the safety locks and how Honoka was probably one car above Nagisa and had to wait for her to transform) and things go as they usually do. But of course at this point with Hikari's state becoming more vulnerable due to "the boy", it doesn't help that she's been going through a lot of hell too and that it just is getting worse, particularly when she and him see each other through ornaments at one point. Even worse: when Shiny Luminous ends up needing Lulun to protect her from the latest attack, it ends up being responded...by the darkness awakening in the boy. Luckily it frees Honoka and Nagisa, but the fact that the potential of the Dark King is finally responding to the massive power of the Queen that Hikari possesses, it shows that the end is coming and that the confrontation long awaited for is about to happen. As for Nagisa and Fuji-P...eh, see last year: she once again just ends up admitting it won't happen but will keep trying and failing regardless. (see, it never ends with girls like her...)
Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart: Ep. 43: The Last Winter Break! A Special Lesson with Zakenna?!
I wouldn't be worried about Hikari unless she heard a mysterious voice say "Zuul" in her refrigerator.
The final winter break of Nagisa and Honoka's time at Verone Academy has arrived, and with it a time to start preparing to move on to the next phase of their lives. One of the elements regarding this "moving on" happens to be passing the torch of their respective clubs to their underclassmen they find are suitable in taking over for them as the new leader or captain. While we know zero about the girl that Honoka has passed the torch to (though she basically seemed to run the science club for two years if these seasons have anything to say about it...well more Yuriko but she was the scientist), Nagisa's passing ends up having her choose the pigtailed Maki who we've seen in a few episodes in Max Heart (though can't say if she was a freshman in the original) and who seems to not quite know about what exactly her coaching style will be. As we've seen, most of Nagisa's coaching style was basically "do my thing and let Shiho and Rina do the gruntwork of training", which obviously considering Maki doesn't have any friends like that is not necessarily going to work for her thus the overpushy variety ends up being her way. But of course Nagisa just reminds her to "do what you think is right" as opposed to what she thinks will work for her. It's tough to say it's sage advice but considering what a coach she was and the Verone winning streak continued on regardless, my guess is that they can do anything and still keep it alive under whoever becomes the new lacrosse leader. In other more important aspects, the connection between Hikari and the boy becomes stronger to the point that really weird things start to emerge: Hikari starts seeing the Dusk Zone in the fridge while the boy spies on the Garden of Light. Likewise, the boy continues to seem to protect Hikari with his darkness, with this whole element that "light and darkness are two sides of the same coin" continuing to come true over and over with the idea that somehow the two of them are either going to have to come to terms...or destroy one another like the Queen and Dark King before them. And with only one more Heartiel to find before the Chairlect is complete (since Seekun will return after they have), a true answer has to be found as soon as possible to figure out how the heck the two can be together or if they are destined for destruction...
Oh and Shiho, Rina and Yuriko were bait for the duo considering they're seniors too and should be as celebrated for running their clubs if not better than Nagisa and Honoka. Really, when will anyone appreciate real leadership at this academy?
A review of "Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart" episodes 41-43; final episodes to emerge in the near future
Sad that the only reason I know of this series is because of PSWeasel's abridged series for Heartcatch and thanks to it I ship Tsubomi and Erika harder than the USS Enterprise
Could have saved that for my Heartcatch reviews in my gallery you know. Sort of keeping it about Futari/Max Heart in this one.
Oh sorry I just don't see what the appeal since they are basically doing the same thing as Madoka Magica: super cute magical girls who may or may not be in love with a plot so dark it makes Lord of the Rings look like a kids movie
Eh, I stick with the more conventional shows. I get it, shows like Madoka are more popular and people our age watch it but I try to get what I need to/want to out of anything.
